House training your kitten: Your kitten should be taught to use a cat litter tray from the day it arrives home (±6 weeks old). Bob Martin ultra fine superior clumping litter is gentle on the kitten’s paws which allows for an easier, less traumatic introduction to house training. 1. Keep placing the kitten in the sand box at those times of the day it is most likely to want to relieve itself. (Usually early in the morning, after meals and last thing at night). 2. Make digging movements in the litter to encourage your kitten to dig. 3. Always praise your kitten if it has used the tray correctly.
For good hygiene practice always handle any cat litter with rubber gloves and wash hands immediately after clearing / disposing of soiled cat litter. Soiled litter should be securely sealed in plastic bags and disposed off within the normal household refuse. DO NOT flush down toilets. DO NOT compost or dig into garden as cat faeces may contain bacteria. Pregnant women, nursing mothers, and those with suppressed immune systems should avoid contact with cat litter. If ingested, drink lots of fresh water and seek medical advice. The crystals may hiss and pop when activated by moisture. This is very normal and completely harmless to you and your cat. Any crystals which escape the cat litter tray should be swept and disposed of to avoid a slip hazard. For additional hygiene protection, use cat litter tray liners and scoop to aid safe and easy disposal.
